Synonyms of the New Testament by R.C. Trench

Synonyms of the New Testament by R.C. Trench

Synonyms of the New Testament is one of several books that will be uploaded here that come from Trench’s lectures which he gave as professor of divinity at King’s College in London. R.C. Trench was an expert of languages and much can be learned from studying each of the words on which he lectured.

In most of Trench’s books on words, there is an index of words in the back. You might choose to pick the words that interest you the most and flip to the pages on which they are discussed. If you find something profound, you might then choose to find the first or most applicable instance of the word in your Bible and write down a title/page reference in the margin. This comes in handy when you come to study the passage later.

If you don’t have a decent familiarity with Greek, you might find it convenient to use this book alongside its convenient publishing over at Blue Letter Bible where you can copy and paste the Greek (and the vast collection of other languages that Trench tends to throw in mid-sentence) into translate.google.com or search for it in Blue Letter Bible to find it.

Alternatively, you can buy a newer copy of this title and you will find that the table of contents and the individual headings have been translated and transliterated for you.

I am uploading two versions of this book here. The first version is a scan of the eighth edition. The second is a digitized version of an unspecified edition. The digitized version is easier to read but may contain errors. The scan is harder to read but is an exact representation of the original.
